Below is a picture of Balanced Rock in Arches National Park. In August of 2021, my family and I took a two-week road trip to 9 National Park. Arches National Park was the 6th park on our list. Out of the 9 National Parks, we visited during this trip, Arches was my favorite. I loved hiking on the rocky terrain and taking in how large all the arches and other iconic features actually were.
Balanced Rock is an illusion as it looks like there is a large rock balancing on top of a much skinnier piece of sandstone. However, it is all attached and not actually “balancing” at all. One day, though, the balancing boulder on top will come tumbling down as erosion takes place over the years. The rock looks different from all angles, but the angle I photographed below is the angle where the rock looks like it is indeed balancing.
