Mt. Rainier is a staple in Washington State. Every that lives here knows how this mountain can light up the sky. This is a photo of Mt. Rainier that I took from the Puyallup River looking towards the east. Blue sky surrounds the mountain on this beautiful day with green trees and the river in the foreground. The mountain looks extremely big in this photo. Some days, even though the mountain never moves or grows, it just looks bigger than other days.
On some days such as this, the mountain looks as though it is floating in the sky. People in Washington State talk about “the mountain” in ways people from out of state don’t understand. For example, we say things like “the mountain is out today.”
