#321 — A scenic picture of a pink flamingo taken at the San Francisco Zoo. Flamingos are tropical birds, although large colonies have been observed high in the Andes. Its plumage is vermilion with black-edged wings; a common Asian and African flamingo is scarlet with black wing feathers. The flamingo scoops its large bill backward through shallow water in marshes and lagoons. When closed, the serrated edges of the bill strain from the muddy water the aquatic plants, shellfish, and frogs on which the bird feeds.

Wild Animals
#524 — A scenic picture taken of two African wild dogs taken at the Woodland Park Zoo which is located in Seattle, Washington. African wild dogs live and hunt in packs. An average pack has seven or eight adult members. Social interaction - muzzling, licking, wrestling is common among these wild dogs just as it is among domestic dogs. African wild dogs are the size of medium domestic dogs. Lycaon pictus is their Latin name and means "painted wolf-like animal." Their coats are mottled in shades of brown, black and beige. They have large, rounded ears and dark brown circles around their eyes. These wild dogs differ from wolves and other dogs in that they have four toes instead of five.

#881 — A close up picture taken of a brown Orangutan located in the Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle, Washington. Orangutans belong to the family Pongidae, which includes all three great apes: gorillas, chimpanzees and orangutans. Distinct subspecies of orangutans live on the islands of Borneo and Sumatra. Unlike gorillas and chimpanzees who live in large male/female social groups, male orangutans are mostly solitary animals. Females may live in small groups composed of dependent young, other adult females and adolescents.

#343 — A scenic picture of two giraffes taken in the Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle, Washington. Giraffes are an African ruminant mammal living in open savannas of the Sahara. The giraffe is the tallest of animals and browse in treetops at heights inaccessible to other leaf-eaters. A male can grow up to be 18 ft (5.5 m) from hoof to crown. Giraffes feed chiefly on leaves of acacia and mimosa, using their extensible tongues and mobile lips to secure food. Giraffes can become very vulnerable when spreading their forelegs and lowering their heads to drink; however, they can do without water for long intervals.

#429 — A scenic picture of two gorillas hugging on a tree branch located in Seattle, Washington at the Woodland Park Zoo. Gorillas eat some 200 types of leaves, tubers, flowers, fruit, fungus and some insects. Favorite foods include bamboo, thistles and wild celery. Gorillas do not drink water. They obtain all the moisture they need from the vast amounts of foliage they consume. Males consume approximately 50 lbs. a day.
